Sony issues statement about Fortnite but fails to mention Switch


Fortnite fans hoping to play the game on the Nintendo Switch but had logged in to their Epic Games account on a PlayStation 4 found they had to create a new account.

We know this because users are able to use their Epic Games account created on an Xbox on PC and vice versa. You can read all about the problems Fortnite players have encountered in our coverage of this story thus far.

After not saying anything for nearly two days Sony broke radio silence by speaking to the BBC.

“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience,” a spokesperson told the BBC.

“With more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms. We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point,” the spokesperson added.

You’ll notice that Sony doesn’t actually address the concerns of Switch users and instead talks up its user base and how many consoles it has sold.

There’s not even an acknowledgment that the Switch exists as a platform you can play Fortnite on.

Whether this will change remains to be seen but given that all the major platforms allow users to use the same Fortnite account no matter where they are playing we have to think the pressure will get to Sony eventually.

Blocking players from using an account on the Switch just because they logged into Fortnite on PS4 is incredibly anti-consumer and, if Sony is really listening to its community, it won’t ignore the hundreds of fans asking it to fix this matter over on Twitter.
