Load shedding expected to continue until 9PM

Just after 11:30 this morning we experienced a power outage and despite Eskom saying it would try its best to avoid load shedding today, we suspected that our lack of electricity might have been the return of the dreaded power cuts.

Our suspicions were confirmed by Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe on Twitter.

“Eskom will implement stage 1 loadshedding from 11:30 until 21:00 due to multiple trips of its power generation units,” Phasiwe announced via Twitter.

Residents have been urged to check the load shedding schedules on their municipality’s website but that’s easier said than done.

At the moment the City of Tshwane doesn’t appear to have a schedule available to view, and a search of the term “loadshedding” only returns a schedule from 2015.

City of Cape Town’s website has both a notice informing you that load shedding stage one is in effect. Clicking the hyperlink on the page will give you a breakdown of which areas will be experiencing outages.

The City of Joburg website also contains no word on load shedding and the City Power website is currently unavailable.

The Eskom load shedding website is up and operational and you can search for your suburb here. If you do not receive your electricity directly from Eskom (i.e you get a bill from the municipality rather than Eskom) then you should check out this table to get in touch with your local officials.

Should the load shedding situation change we will be sure to update you.
