You can now use Nintendo Labo with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Those hoping for the Nintendo Labo platform to be expanded upon will be happy to know that the Variety Kit is now compatible with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

This was announced yesterday with an accompanying trailer which we’ve embedded below. It shows that the Toy-Con Motorbike build now works as a steering controller in the game.

If you already own Mario kart 8 Deluxe you should find a free update to the title today. With the update installed the Labo motorbike will now show up as a compatible controller in the menu.

This is the first game (outside of the bundled Labo software) to support Nintendo’s cardboard accessories.

It is promised in the announcement that “more titles will be compatible with Nintendo Labo in the future”, but none have been named yet.

In other Labo news Nintendo is currently running two contests with the prize being a “cardboard-inspired Nintendo Switch“. The two categories for the contest are “Best Gaming Experience using Toy-Con Garage” and “Best Toy-Con Musical Instrument”.

With so many impressive fan creations out there since Labo’s launch, you’re going to have to work hard to win here.

Alternatively, if you already have a Switch and just want it to look a bit different, consider some dbrand skins.
