Dead Cells gets Mac + Linux support, a price increase and mods

Since releasing into Steam’s early access back in May of 2017, roguelike Dead Cells has received many updates with the most recent one being important.

The first big news is that macOS and Linux users can now natively play the game. In conjunction with the game’s eventual leap to consoles, almost everyone will be able to play this game regardless of their choice of hardware and software.

Next up is a price increase to coincide with Dead Cells leaving early access in August of this year. An increase has always been on the cards according to a warning on the game’s store page which has been there since the game launched on early access.

The $15 game will get a price increase to $20 just after the Steam Summer Sale 2018  on ends 5th July. Take note, you have until then to get something of a double discount, as it’s already reduced by 40% for the sale.

That’s just the US dollar prices. Make sure to check Steam to see what it will cost with regional pricing. Right now it’s R128.99 in South Africa at 40% off, but we don’t know how that will translate when the sale ends and the $5 is added on.

Lastly there’s now mod support for the game. Developer Motion Twin states that this is in a “very early, alpha state” with modding being limited to certain gameplay and cosmetic parts of the game.

If you’d like to get into this early modding scene, there’s documentation for it written by one of the developers. You can also read the full patch notes or the update announcement to learn more.
