Due to apparent high demand, City Power has turned off its Sebenza substation leaving Alexandre, Gresswold and surrounding areas in darkness.
This was announced in a tweet (embedded below) less than an hour ago at the time of writing. One important point to note here is the discrepancies in the times.
The tweet is very recent but the release is dated 06:00. That being said, we have personally experienced a loss of power since 21:00 last night, bringing the down-time for certain people to around 12 hours.
Going by the replies to this tweet, it seems like we’re not the only ones.
Dear @CityofJoburgZA residents, please note that there is load rotation currently taking place. The current areas are off: Alexandre and Gresswold and surrounding areas. Please follow on our TL for more info. ^RT pic.twitter.com/AABQ28F7aG

We’re not entirely sure why this even is labelled as “load rotation” instead of “load shedding”, especially after the latter was the official terminology used recently.
City Power suggests following their Twitter account for updates and have just released another statement saying that is should return by 09:00.
