Fortnite was the biggest earner on consoles in May

While Bluehole and Epic Games battle it out in the courtroom over a copyright infringement lawsuit, Epic Games is making bank from Fortnite.

This is according to research from the firm Superdata which looked at the biggest games in terms of earnings for PC, console and mobile.

Throughout May, gamers spent an estimated $9.1 billion across the various platforms, which is a 25 percent increase compared to the same time last year.

The real star of the show, however, is Fortnite.

“We estimate that Fortnite made $318 million across all platforms in May, up 7% from April. The majority of growth came from console, with mobile and PC both coming in flat compared to April,” reports Superdata.

To put this into greater perspective, a free to play game beat out FIFA 18, Call of Duty: WWII, Grand Theft Auto V and God of War. We’re gobsmacked to be honest.

Over on PC, Riot Games’ League of Legends still tops the charts for earnings while Fortnite comes in fifth. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds ranks ninth.

Most mobile gamers threw money at Honour of Kings while Pokémon GO was the fourth biggest earner during May. Superdata does say that Pokémon GO’s player base is at its highest peak since 2016 and spending on the game increased by 174 percent year-on-year.
