3D Pen used to make 2D wall art

Outside of cheap 3D printers, a 3D pen is a great gateway into the world of 3D design, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

YouTube channel Make Anything just released an interesting video on the topic, producing two large pieces in the process.

To the glee of landlords everywhere, this project entails much more than simply applying hot filament to a wall.

Instead each piece of art starts off as a sketch to act as the loose diagram. Concentric circles are then printed onto standard paper and they, together with a grid, act as the tools to lay down the filament.

For that standard filament intended for printers is used. The timber fill from Fillamentum was used here to give it that DIY look and avoid the shiny look of most plastics.

With the circles and grid the filament was used to make the print a little less free-hand, but it still requires a lot of patience and skill to make something that looks as good as the finished product you’ll see here.

Both pieces are surprisingly large and strong, hanging from a single nail in the wall.

Aside from decorating your own work or living space, we can see these making some money on Etsy or at local flea markets.
