Original Lando coming back for Star Wars: Episode IX

After the lukewarm performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, fans of the franchise may be glad to hear that one of its most iconic characters is reportedly going to appear in Episode XI.

That’s right the original Lando Calrissian, aka Billy Dee Williams, is set to reprise his role for the next Star Wars film, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

Production on the film, which begins later this year, but is yet to be given an official title. As for Williams’ joining the project, rumours began circulating when the actor recently pulled out of an appearance at a Sci-Fi convention due to movie scheduling conflicts.

THR’s sources say the movie in question is indeed Star Wars: Episode XI. If true it would be the first time that Williams has appeared in a Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi (the best one in my opinion) in 1983.

Williams’ return should not shock fans though, with the recent J.J. Abrams-led films leaning heavily on nostalgia and bringing back the original actors who played Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo to reprise the roles that shot them to stardom.

As for what Calrissian’s part in Episode XI will be, remains to be seen. But considering the passing of Carrie Fisher and Han being killed in The Force Awakens, perhaps our favourite intergalactic gambler will step in to lead the Rebel forces.

Wonder how Donald Glover feels about all this?
