Huawei promises better smartphone graphics performance with GPU Turbo

Huawei Mobile has an interesting update on the way in the form of a graphics performance boost for some of its newer devices called GPU Turbo.

The Chinese smartphone maker has outlined a schedule for when the update will reach specific devices, along with detailing some of the promises that GPU Turbo is said to offer.

“Arriving as part of an EMUI update to a range of Huawei devices, GPU Turbo will allow users to enjoy much-improved gaming performances without having to upgrade their devices,” the company explained in a press statement sent to htxt.africa.

According to Huawei, the update will enhance the graphics performance of devices across its range, with it designed to improve the value proposition of some phones following their launch.

Better graphics performance for mobile gaming is one advantage to the GPU Turbo update, explains the company, with titles like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang set for support once the update begins rolling out. Huawei says it will also add more processor-intensive titles to the list for GPU Turbo.

As far as actual benefits go, with GPU Turbo aboard devices like the Mate 10 Pro and P20, Huawei notes an increase in graphics processing efficiency of up to 60 percent and 30 percent saving in SoC (System on Chip) power consumption.

Along with graphics output, GPU Turbo will reportedly improve the performance of Huawei’s EMUI user interface. With it proving a little difficult to navigate at times and sporting several duplicated apps, we’re a little hesitant to say improved speed will solve all of EMUI’s shortcomings.

Nevertheless, having any improvements hit a device OTA are always welcome.

The scheduled rollout for GPU Turbo to Huawei devices is as follows:

Huawei P20/P20 Pro – August 2018

Huawei Mate 10 Pro – August 2018

Huawei P Smart – September 2018

Huawei P20 Lite – September 2018

Huawei Mate 9 – November 2018

Huawei P10/P10 Plus – November 2018.
