007’s Aston Martin DB5 is now an official LEGO set with an ejector seat

After recently releasing a Voltron set, LEGO has again produced something intended for older fans of bricks in an Aston Martin DB5 based on 007’s version of the car.

Set 10262: James Bond Aston Martin DB5 contains 1 290 pieces and costs £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 depending on where you live.

For those of us in South Africa, there’s no official price available right now, but expect it to be a conversion of the UK price, plus a bit extra. We’re going to predict a R2 500 price tag as a minimum once it’s launched here.

As this set is exclusive to official LEGO Stores, it will probably be available in the upcoming shop in Sandton, which is the first of its kind on the African continent.

This particular vehicle is based on the Goldfinger car, and this model does a lot more than just look like the DB5. There’s a complex ejector seat, front machine guns, a bulletproof screen, rotating number plate and more.

While this set does use the 007 licence, it falls into the “Creator Expert” sub-theme that LEGO has been running for some time now. As such it falls into a similar scale of previous vehicles like the Ferrari F40 and VW Beetle, but none of them have had this much extra detailing and mechanisms built in.

You can read the full press release, together with dozens of official images, right here. We’ve put a small gallery of the best shots together below, and we suggest watching the designer video to see how it was made.

Those inside of the LEGO community have expressed their problems with this set. They’ve said that it’s too squared off to properly capture the look of the car, which is something we agree with to an extent.

The launch of the set was also strange, and then there’ the issue of 007. This isn’t a property we ever expected LEGO to pick up given it’s kid-friendly nature, so we’ll need to see how this affects the company in the future.
