Card reveals for the latest Hearthstone expansion, The Boomsday Project, are well underway and last night Blizzard revealed a fantastic new card.
The card in question is Whizbang the Wonderful, a neutral Legendary minion that costs four mana and has 4/5 in stats.
It’s a decent four-drop though you likely won’t be playing this card in your deck because its text reads: You start the game with one of Whizbang’s Wonderful Decks!
What are wonderful decks? What happens to your deck? Senior game designer Peter Whalen explains.
“When you add Whizbang to your deck you don’t need any other cards. Instead, Whizbang replaces your hero and your entire deck,” explains the designer.
“When you start the game he picks one of the 18 recent deck recipes for you at random. Each time you play you’ll get a new deck,” says Whalen.
It seems completely random and stupid at first, unless you’re a free to play player.
Hearthstone is an expensive hobby what with three expansions being released every year, and Whizbang gives players the chance to play with cards they might not own or be able to craft.
Granted, one would have to open Whizbang in a pack or craft him for 1 600 Arcane dust but for that investment you get to play with cards you might not have.
This seems like a fun card and a great way to give free to play players a chance at getting to grips with new cards in a competitive way. While Dungeon Run and The Monster Hunt were fun single player additions to the game, they don’t allow you to face other players.
Blizzard also revealed a few other cards during its Hearthside Chat (which you can view below) including the Warrior weapon Super Collider and Druid Legendary minion Flobbidinous Floop.
The Boomsday Project will release on 7th August and if you’d like to keep up with the card reveals we recommend checking the Hearthstone sub-Reddit daily.
