Netflix makes browsing on a TV easier with latest update

Browsing Netflix on a TV can be a pain owing to the lack of controls aside from a rather archaic remote control.

While Netflix is a website, data released by the firm earlier this year shows that the most popular medium to stream to is a connected TV. It makes sense then that Netflix improves it’s user interface (UI) for that platform lest folks get fed up.

And that is precisely what the firm has done. Last week Netflix began rolling out a UI update for TVs it’s calling TV UI.

Unimaginative naming aside, the idea behind the update is to make content easier to find.

“The new interface was based on rigorous research and testing around how we can make it easier to find titles on TVs, where navigation can feel a bit tougher when you are restricted to just a few buttons on a remote control,” says Netflix director of product innovation Stephen Garcia.

TV UI makes it easier to browse the Netflix library from your TV.

The director says that TV viewers will find new content more easily as a result of this change.

As obvious as this improvement sounds, Garcia says it required rigourous testing before being released to all users.

“While this may feel like an obvious update to some, validating that this TV experience was better for our members took extensive research, testing and technology improvements,” the director said.

Netflix has said that it has many more improvements which it will roll out in the coming months but for now, browsing on your TV has been made simpler.
