The best trailers from SDCC 2018

San Diego Comic Con 2018 wrapped up this weekend, and has become the norm for the week-long event, the world’s biggest studios showcased their upcoming blockbuster films.

Superhero movies in particular took up most of the focus, and it was DC and Warner Bros. that dominated in terms of new projects.

Among the trailers that dropped over the past few days, was our first look at Jason Momoa’s solo-outing for Aquaman, as well as the superhero version of Big with Shazam!, and a Kaiju sequel flick in the form of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

To save you some time from trawling for the best trailers on YouTube, we’ve complied them below.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly

For mainstream anime fans out there, the 20th Dragon Ball film was announced a few days ago, which was then followed up a fully fledged trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

As you can probably tell from the title this iteration will tackle the story of the mysterious Saiyan warrior whose power seems to know no limits.

With Goku, Vegeta and Freiza all reaching new heights in the Super TV series, it should be interesting to see how they fare against Broly this time round.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is slated for cinemas Stateside in January 2019.

Glass

“They call me Mister Glass.” Yes, the Shyamalan-iverse (that’s what we’re calling it) is coming together. Even since Bruce Willis’ David Dunn appeared in the post-credits scene in Split, we’ve been anxiously awaiting a trailer for Glass.

Now that it’s arrived it looks promising, with Mister Glass, The Sentinel and The Horde sitting within the confines of a psychiatric facility as they receive treatment for “delusions of grandeur.”

Hitting cinemas on 18th January 2019, we’re hoping Shyamalan was a truly epic plot twist planned for this film.

Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The next instalment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise has not been without its problems. Mainly with Johnny Depp being cast in the titular role of Grindelwald, and his off-screen actions being less than gentlemanly.

Nevertheless there is still plenty to look forward to in this film. Namely Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne returning as Newt Scamander, along with the superb CGI and eponymous magical beasts that we saw in the first film.

The Crimes of Grindelwald lands later this year in November.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

With so many cinematic universes being created, it can be a little hard to keep track. One that’s currently coming to fruition is the Monarch one, which is the mystery organisation working behind the scenes during the recent Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island movies.

The next chapter focuses back on Godzilla for King of the Monsters. It also stars Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga and bunch of others, but the main stars of the show are the Titans.

These are the massive monsters that once ruled this planet, and now will be making their return in this upcoming film come May 2019.

Shazam!

The running joke when it comes to the DCEU is that it’s far darker in tone that its Marvel counterpart. Now DC is going at lengths to change that with Shazam!, which has been described as a Tom Hanks’ Big but with superpowers.

Having watched the trailer we’re still a little unsure of Zachary Levi’s Shazam! suit for the film, but this latest project certainly feels like a drastic departure from other DC films like Dawn of Justice.

The below trailer only serves as a teaser, with more likely forthcoming during the next few months. As for when you can watch it, Shazam! will be in cinemas during April 2019.

Aquaman

Easily the biggest trailers of San Diego Comic Con 2018, we’ve been waiting a long time to see what Jason Momoa’s first solo outing as Aquaman will look like.

Unlike Justice League, this version appears to be brooding slightly less, as he comes to grips with his “destiny” to become king of Atlantis. Speaking of which, the underwater empire is brighter and more beautiful than we anticipated.

Oh, there are also sharks that get ridden like horses and an army of sea monsters from the Mariana Trench that feature as well.

Arriving in cinemas in December this year, Aquaman is certainly a different kind of holiday movie.
