Harley-Davidson planning for more electric motorcycles in coming years

Harley-Davidson is a motorcycle brand known for its large and loud offerings, but that could soon change following a series of announcements from the company. The most significant is that three new electric motorcycles are planned for release over the next few years.

The first of these should be familiar to Marvel movie fans, with versions of the Livewire motorcycle appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Winter Soldier. Now the offering is ready to hit the roads proper, and will be available as of next year.

Unfortunately it’s unclear if other countries like South Africa, which has a strong community of Harley-Davidson owners, will be getting the Livewire anytime soon.

As for the other electric vehicles the manufacturer has planned, the company currently has two new bikes in the works, both of which are slated to be on the road in 2022.

Neither of the electric motorcycle concepts have a codename or designation at this stage, but they are quite different in terms of design and target rider.

The first is a dirt bike made for off-road use, but can still be ridden in urban environments according to motorcycle maker.

The other is more of an e-bike in the same mould as the ones from Audi’s e-bike concepts or Ford’s MoDe options. As such, you probably won’t be able to use this electric offering on the freeway or other major roads like Harley’s other bikes.

With more electrified vehicles set to arrive in South Africa in the coming years, it looks like Harley-Davidson is trying to lead the charge when it comes to motorcycles.
