Nintendo Switch sales near 20 million

Nintendo’s financial results have been released with the big standout being the Switch with a current sales figure sitting at 19.67 million units.

The page revealing this information also shows Nintendo’s past consoles for comparison. The Wii U, for example, sold 13.56 million in its lifetime.

Looking at a more successful console that is still being sold, the 3DS range is at a whopping 72.89 million.

Looking past hardware this information also sheds light on sales of first party software:

  • Super Mario Odyssey: 11.17 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:  10.35 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 9.32 million
  • Splatoon 2: 6.76 million
  • 1-2-Switch: 2.45 million
  • ARMS: 2.01 million
  • Kirby Star Allies: 1.89 million
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 1.42 million
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: 1.40 million
  • Mario Tennis Aces: 1.38 million

It’s been publicly stated in the past that Nintendo has a goal of selling 20 million Switch units before 31st March 2019. We’re fairly certain that this milestone will be reached thanks to the Pokémon Let’s Go games in November and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December.

Factoring in all the great third party games and the standard holiday rush, and it’s looking fairly certain that the Switch is going to continue being a dominant force in the industry.

If you have a head for numbers you can explore all the results on the dedicated Nintendo Japan. Despite being on a co.jp top-level domain, this part of the site is in English.
