Samsung updates tablet lineup with Galaxy Tab S4 and Tab A

If you’re in the market for a new tablet Samsung just debuted a pair that may pique your interest – the Galaxy Tab S4 and Galaxy Tab A.

Each of the tablets is aimed at a particular type of consumer, says Samsung Mobile.

The Tab S4 has more of a productivity slant and pairs with a keyboard cover and S Pen stylus. The Tab A is a more traditional 10.5″ tablet and will complement one’s PC or notebook setup.

Diving deeper into the more productivity-focused tablet of the pair, the Tab S4 sports a 10.5″ Super Amoled display up front with a 2 560 X 1 600 resolution.

Internally Samsung is going all out when it comes to the processor, with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU doing the heavy lifting. Added to this is 4GB RAM and a choice of 64GB or 256GB onboard storage depending on the model. A microSD slot also takes care of an extra 400GB of space if needed.

Other notable elements include a 13MP camera on the rear, if you’re the kind of person that likes to take pictures with tablets, as well as a 7 300mAh battery that caters to fast charging and LTE connectivity.

Samsung has also included an S Pen for the Tab S4, but it isn’t the Bluetooth-enabled version that’s been rumoured for the Galaxy Note 9.

As for Samsung’s other new tablet, which too measures 10.5″ up front, it’s more of a mid-range offering if we’re going by the specifications.

The LCD display is Full HD at a 1 920 X 1 080 resolution, and powering things is a more modest octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset. 3GB RAM is on offer with only a 32GB onboard storage option available, but there is of course the microSD slot for a further 400GB.

The rest of the device is fairly similar to the Tab S4, with a 7 300mAh battery, LTE connectivity and Android 8.1 layered beneath a Samsung designed skin.

Unfortunately no S Pen is included with purchase, so you’ll have to spring some extra cash to get one.

Coming soon?

No word at this stage from Samsung Mobile South Africa on when the new tablets will be landing locally, but with the Galaxy Note 9 event scheduled for next week, hopefully some news will be forthcoming.

For now the Galaxy Tab S4 is set to start at $650 (~R8 667) Stateside, according to The Verge, but there is no pricing information on the Tab A at this stage.
