Nokia 3.1 now available in South Africa for R2 299

HMD Global has brought a new entry-level Nokia phone to South Africa – the Nokia 3.1.

This latest offering was one of a trio of smartphones that the company revealed earlier in the year, all baring the .1 moniker.

Keeping with HMD Global’s aggressive pricing strategy, the Nokia 3.1 is available to purchase for a recommended R2 299, with MTN, Vodacom and other local retailers selling the phone.

Being a entry-level phone, the Nokia 3.1 is not sporting specifications to write home about, but they look solid enough on paper to get the job done.

To that end a 5.2″ HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio is up front. Added to this is a 13MP camera on the rear and 8MP front facing option.

Internally an octa-core MediaTek MT6750N chipset is doing the heavy lifting, with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage on offer. A microSD slot good for an extra 128GB is available as well.

There’s also a 2 990mAh battery, LTE (Cat.4) connectivity, and of course pure Android 8.0 Oreo running things.

The Nokia 3.1 will be sold in two colour options for South African consumers – blue with copper trim and black with chrome trim.

Designed to appeal to those who want to make the jump from feature phone to smartphone, it should be interesting to see if the Nokia 3.1 becomes a strong seller for HMD Global.
