Override: Mech City Brawl closed beta powers up this weekend

Back in July we covered a very interesting new game in Override: Mech City Brawl – a 3D fighting title featuring giant robots and the ability to play co-op Voltron style, with each person taking control of one part of a mech.

Thankfully we, and many others, will get to play the game this weekend in a closed beta.

This is not exclusive to the press or for people who have placed pre-orders, but rather those that left their names on the official website and signed up to the newsletter.

Unfortunately signing up right now does not seem to get you a code. We still suggest you do it, however, so you don’t miss future opportunities to play.

The beta will give players access to all 12 playable mechs and will focus on two to four player free-for-all matches in both local and online. Players will have between 10th and 12th August to participate with more betas promised before the 4th December 2018 launch.

We’re downloading the 1.6GB PC version of the beta right now, but it and the final game are also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

We’ll play a few rounds this weekend and let you know how it is. If you were lucky enough to get into the beta with us and it sways you to make a purchase, the base game is $30 (~R414) with a $40 (~R552) “Super Charged Mega Edition” also available. The latter includes a season pass and 32 character skins.

Speaking of skins, we really hope the developers manage to strike a deal to get Godzilla: King of the Monsters content into the game. The character Metageckon is clearly inspired by Mechagodzilla, and a skin of the new movie version of Godzilla would be great here.
