[Updated] Sony releasing limited edition 500 Million PS4 Pro console

Update

We’ve been informed that the limited edition 500 Million PS4 Pro will be coming to South Africa and feature a recommended price tag of R8 499.99. Still no mention of when it will be available to purchase locally though, but the console bundle and standalone DualShock controller will be sold in SA.

Original story follows below.

If you’re a gamer and have not purchased a PlayStation console in some form over the years, you might be a very special exception, as Sony is celebrating its 500 millionth console being sold with the release of the new 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro.

To be slightly more accurate, Sony have sold a reported 525.3 million PlayStation consoles, spanning the original to the current PS4 Pro iteration.

So what makes this latest offering so special?

Well it’s got a translucent dark blue cover for one, with copper accents on the PlayStation logo and PS4 insignia. The 500 Million PS4 Pro also comes with a matching DualShock 4 controller, PlayStation Camera, stand and mono headset to complete the look.

This console also comes with 2TB space onboard which should have you covered when it comes to storing games, apps and other content.

PlayStation says 500 000 units of the 500 Million PS4 Pro will go on sale in select regions from 24th August onwards.

No word though on when or indeed if South Africa will be receiving it, but it’s worthwhile keeping tabs on sites like BT Games, Animeworx and Raru if you’re interested in pre-ordering as stock will likely be limited.

The 500 Million PS4 Pro will go on sale Stateside for a recommended $499.99 (~R6 946), but if that’s a bit too rich for your blood the controller is being sold separately for $64.99 (~R902).

If you’re still not convinced by the 500 Million PS4 Pro console, watch PlayStation’s Sid Shuman unbox it in the video below.
