Windows 10 testers getting early access to new Xbox Avatar Editor

Microsoft is currently in the process of creating unique and diverse Xbox Avatar creation tools for its gamers.

In June this year select Xbox owners, Insider members, had the chance to test out some of the features, and now it’s coming to those running Windows 10.

Unfortunately it’s not available to everyone running the operating system, with The Verge noting that some Windows 10 testers are getting access ahead of the feature’s widespread availability scheduled for October this year.

Should you be a tester, the feature can be trialed via the Xbox Avatar Editor beta in the Microsoft Store, and provided you have a compatible device. You may also have to be an Xbox Insider member in order to test out the full aspects of the new Xbox Live avatars.

While we haven’t had the chance to try it out for ourselves, The Verge’s Tom Warren says the creation process is quite basic for now.

“While the new avatars are rather basic right now, you can fully customize your online character with body type options, clothing, and props. Microsoft is planning to add accessories, props, moods, clothing, and appearance categories in the future, alongside more content after the avatars are broadly available in October,” says Warren.

Microsoft is said to be showcasing these new-look avatars on gamertag profiles and in certain sections of the Xbox dashboard, but it’s unclear how they would appear on Windows 10.

We’re just venturing a guess here, but having them pop up like the assistants circa Windows 95 could be a nice touch.

You won’t have to wait much longer to check out the avatar editor and create your own one though, with the feature set to launch within the next two months.
