Fitbit introduces Charge 3, landing in SA in October for R2 599

There’s a new fitness-focused wearable on its way to South Africa in the form of the Fitbit Charge 3.

The latest offering has just been announced by the company, with it going up for pre-order Stateside for $149.95.

Along with announcing its arrival in the States, Fitbit has confirmed its pricing and availability for South Africa.

To that end it’s currently slated for an October release locally, although a more precise date is not mentioned.

What is more definitive is the recommended retail price, with the Fitbit Charge 3 starting from R2 599 for the standard version and R3 099 for the Special Edition which has Fitbit Pay functionality.

There will be choice of either graphite or rose gold aluminum frames, with a few straps options. Accessories for both models, likely in the form of different straps, will range from R349 to R549.

The new OLED touchscreen display has a Gorilla Glass 3 construction, and is also 40 percent brighter and larger than the previous model’s variant.

It’s touting a “swimproof” design too, which Fibit says makes it water-resistant for up to 50 metres, although a recommended time for use is not listed.

Featuring a larger battery as well, the Charge 3 can go as long as seven days without requiring a recharge, which takes roughly two hours to go from 0 percent to 100 percent.

Other notable aspects include improved heart rate and sleep monitoring accuracy, the addition of more specific exercises like yoga and a Women’s Health tracking mode.

Operating system compatibility is also expanding Windows 10 set to join the current iOS and Android iterations.
