[UPDATED] Asphalt Nitro racers compete for R250 000 prize at Comic Con Africa

MTN along with Gameloft has announced that the Asphalt Cup racing tournament will be taking place in South Africa.

The tournament runs from 17th August to 2nd September. Each weekend will see a tournament being played where Asphalt players can win a slice of a R87 500 prize pool.

This is where things get interesting however. MTN has modified a version of Asphalt Nitro to have a more local appeal. You can download the game for Android devices at this link so long as you are an MTN customer.

The MTN Asphalt Cup will culminate in a grand final at Comic Con Africa where the top eight players in South Africa will compete for a R250 000 grand prize.

“We’re delighted to be one of the sponsors of Comic Con Africa and we can’t wait to connect the fans to such a brilliant pop culture convention, and we know that since great power comes with great responsibility, our gamers, as always, will be on top form,” said MTN executive for corporate affairs, Jacqui O’Sullivan.

MTN says it has modified the mobile racing game to give it a more local flavour. The telco has even gone so far as to create a local soundtrack for the game featuring local EDM DJs.

We’re quite excited to see some mobile esports at Comic Con Africa later this year especially alongside a tournament as large as the VS Gaming Masters.

[UPDATED] Information about the game being played has been updated following additional information from MTN.
