Nedbank together with Mercedes-Benz and WineTech have announced that the second season of the LaunchLab Ideas Programme is now looking for entrants.

The programme is designed to help entrepreneurs and startup founders accelerate their business or idea, with a particular focus on the South African and African context.

“LaunchLab’s mission is to facilitate valuable connections for startups and corporates, as well as other relevant business partners to help those startups excel. The Ideas Programme is intended primarily for very early-stage businesses looking to validate their concepts or improve their technology offering to their market,” explained a press release about the initiative.

In terms of the types of industries and startups that LaunchLab are looking, the following have been highlighted:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Agritech and Food Innovations
  • Insurtech
  • Safety
  • Fintech
  • Blockchain
  • Education
  • Cleantech
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Social Enterprises

The submission process began earlier this month, and will close on 28th September, with interested entrants required to send through a three-minute long video (smartphone video is accepted too) explaining their startup or idea.

LaunchLab will also be hosting information sessions over the next two weeks. The first is happening at the University of Pretoria Piazza on 23rd August from 11:00 to 14:00, and the second will be held at the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab on 28th August from 16:00 to 17:00.

Following the submission process, the top 10 finalists will be notified during the second week of October. From there they’ll be taking through various stages before becoming part of the LaunchLab’s incubation environment.
