Microsoft working on Xbox All Access monthly subscription service

Microsoft is looking to get deeper into the subscription service game, with reports in recent days building momentum that the company is working on an Xbox All Access offering.

The most substantial report to date comes via Windows Central, with the site noting that Microsoft plans to offer an Xbox One console, Xbox Live Gold membership and Xbox Game Pass for a flat monthly fee over a 24 month contract.

The Xbox One X version of Xbox All Access could cost in the region of $35 (~R502) a month, with a lower tier option serving up the slimmer and less powerful Xbox One S console for $22 (~R315) a month.

According to Engadget, at those rumoured prices, it works out to slightly less expensive than paying for all those products in full separately.

It’s difficult to say if the same value would be on offer for South African console gamers, as the pricing conversion is unknown and the rand-dollar exchange rate is not strong at the moment.

At this stage, there is no indication from Microsoft that Xbox All Access will be a fully fledged service any time soon, but an announcement may be on the way.

If it does come to fruition, Xbox All Access may be an interesting offering for those who are intrigued by Microsoft’s gaming hardware and titles, but have not taking the plunge yet.

Personally, if better exclusive games arrive on the platform, and the pricing is tempting enough, I could certainly see myself trying out Xbox All Access in favour of the PlayStation setup I currently favour.

What are your thoughts. If it does arrive, is Xbox All Access something you’d be keen on?
