Audi debuts PB 18 e-tron supercar concept at Pebble Beach

Last month Audi teased that it would be debuting a new e-tron supercar concept at the Pebble Beach car show in California.

True to its word, the German carmaker has unveiled the Audi PB18 e-tron.

For now the vehicle remains a concept car, and instead of being a road-going offering is rather intended as a potential blueprint for Audi’s future supercars.

It also serves as a teaser for a car that the company will in fact be bringing to market, the e-tron SUV.

But for now let’s focus on this new supercar concept.

As for its design, Audi says inspiration came from their own R18 e-tron race car, which has taken part in and convincingly won several Le Mans races in the past decade.

It’s quite low and wide as well, which is again a hallmark of any road-ready race car, with the PB18 sitting at 1.15m tall and 4.53m long. That profile also means there’s enough space for a boot, not a big boot as you can see in the video at the end, but a boot nonetheless.

As for the important stuff, performance, Audi says the PB18’s electric engine delivers a peak total of 500kW of power, with 150kW going to the front axle and the remainder sent to the rear.

When combined with its 830Nm of torque, the PB18 can get to 100km/h from a standstill in just over two seconds, says the carmaker.

In terms of driving range the liquid-cooled solid state battery has a capacity of 95kWh, which gives the PB18 an estimated range of up to 500 kilometres from a full charge, along with fast charging technology that allows it to be recharged in just 15 minutes.

If the upcoming e-tron SUV can sport similar charging numbers, then Audi may have a real game changer on its hands.

As mentioned the PB18 is not set for a release, but we could see a refined version of it sometime soon.
