Cell C scoops second Corporate Citizenship Award

The Standard Bank Top Women awards were held in Johannesburg this week and Cell C has won a second Corporate Citizenship Award with the first being won back in 2014.

The telco beat out five other firms vying for the award in the Top Gender Empowered Company category including: Bata South Africa, Nexia SAB&T, Suncoast Casino & Resorts, T-Systems and Vitrovian Trade & Projects.

For its part, Cell C has three programmes designed to address women empowerment, education and employability. These programmes are:

  • Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day
  • Cell C Girl Child Bursary Fund
  • Cell C Equitable ICT Access for Girls

“Cell C has been committed to the advancement of women empowerment since inception and we will continue to make a meaningful contribution to accelerate sustainable socio-economic and gender transformation as we believe it is the key to South Africa’s future,” managing executive for corporate social investment at Cell C, Suzette van der Merwe said.

The award itself was created to honour companies which create a positive impact on the quality of life and prosperity of South African women.

“We are devoted to providing the ultimate platform to address the challenges facing women-driven economic growth. Together with the CGE, our panel of judges and all those who have participated in the Standard Bank TOP WOMEN Awards in the past 15 years, we represent a community that actively responds to the pertinent questions surrounding the barriers to success for women entrepreneurs,” director of Standard Bank Top Women Karla Fletcher said.
