The International 8 winners claim $11.2 million prize

For the first time since 2013 The International Grand Final went to a full five games and what a five games it was.

The Grand Final saw OG face off against Chinese team and Paris Saint-Germain LGD (yes, like the Parisian football club) for a grand prize of $11.2 million.

While OG were favourites to win The International in 2017, the team had to fight through European qualifiers to get a spot at this years The International.

PSG.LGD were also favourites going into the tournament given their remarkable consistency in prior events.

To make matters worse OG were fielding new player Topbias “Topson” Taavitsainen who had never played in a major LAN tournament before.

But, OG prevailed and found themselves in the Upper Bracket at The International Main Event last week. There, the team faced TI7 champions Liquid as well as US team Evil Geniuses which is captained by former OG member Tal “Fly” Aizik.

On Saturday evening OG found themselves facing PSG.LGD for the second time after the Chinese team fought its way to the Grand Final from the lower bracket.

During the Grand Final OG was able to secure game one but PSG.LGD claimed game two and three in spectacular fashion. With one game left for PSG.LGD to win and claim the Aegis of Champions and the $11.2 million prize purse, OG had to dig deep and they must’ve hit mantle with that digging.

The International 8 Prize Pool split.

The team came back to win two games and ultimately, The International 8.

Congratulations to Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka, Sébastien “7ckingmad” Debs (or “Cebs” during TI), Anathan “Ana” Pham and Topbias “Topson” Taavitsainen on their victory. You can check out the highlights of the last two games of the finals below.
