Acer focuses on ultra-slim design for new Swift 7 and Swift 5 at IFA 2018

When it comes to their Swift notebooks, it’s clear that Acer has a penchant for thinness. So much so that the Taiwanese manufacturer showcased a pair of new ultra-slim devices at their press conference at IFA 2018 earlier today – the Swift 5 and Swift 7.

What makes these new notebooks noteworthy?

Let’s start with the Swift 5, which is available in a 14″ and 15″ design, both of which featuring comparable internal specifications depending on the model you opt for.

It is, however, the 15″ version that grabs our attention, with Acer naming it the world’s lightest 15″ notebook at 990 grams.

Added to the slim design is a 5.87 mm thin bezel in an all-metal chassis. The aforementioned display is Full HD, with up to an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor available.

Acer South Africa notes that the Swift 5, both 14″ and 15″ models, will start at R15 999, with the notebooks said to be available locally as of January next year, so keep your eyes peeled for that if you’re in the market for a new notebook.

Next is the Swift 7 which too has a unique honour as Acer says it’s the world’s thinnest notebook at 10 millimetres.

It too tips the scale at under one kilogram and features a screen-to-body ratio of 92 percent. The bezels are also ultra-thin at 4.27 millimetres around the same 14″ display found in the previous generation of Swift 7.

While we haven’t had the chance to see the device in person yet, it’s obvious that Acer is targeting the MacBook and XPS 13 crowd with this latest offering.

Unfortunately there’s no pricing or release date information forthcoming from Acer at this stage, so we’ll have to wait and see when the Swift 7 will be coming to South Africa, and how much it will cost.
