Dive into a new trailer for Spelunky 2

After being announced a while back we’ve been patiently waiting to see more of Spelunky 2, and we just got a lot of it thanks to a new trailer.

Despite clocking in at a scant one minute 48 seconds, it’s packed to the brim with new content to see.

Firstly, it looks like you’ll be able to land on other planets and see what’s going on in their alien caves. Maybe the collective players of the other games stripped Earth dry of all its gold and cavemen?

We also get a look at a bunch of characters which appear to have class abilities, though we’re not sure if the actions they pull off in the trailer is simply tied to items picked up during the run.

We’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out because it ends on a stinger as the “coming” title fades in slowly and kills our hopes of playing this game this year.

One other worry people may have is that this trailer is hosted on the PlayStation channel. Spelunky 2 is not a PS4 exclusive, but it will launch on that console together with Steam first.

Finally, while we’ve seen some comments stating that the new art style is a bit flat, we cut our teeth on the original shareware version of the game, so we’re not too familiar with how it compares to the paid version. That being said, Spelunky is roguelike royalty and we trust developer Derek Yu to make it work.

Yu was also interviewed on the PlayStation blog recently, so give that a read if you want to know more.
