We finally have gameplay footage from The Sinking City

The Sinking City is a Lovecraftian investigation game we’ve been following for some time now, and we finally have a clear look at the gameplay.

Developer Frogwares has uploaded a 12-minute video to their YouTube channel showing off one of the game’s side missions.

In this version of 1920s USA, the player takes control of Mr. Reed who is, appropriately, going insane because of some past events. These also gave him the ability to see and hear events from the past, which makes him a uniquely qualified PI.

With this ability players will need to put past events into the correct sequence to progress, and there’s a concentration mode to find clues much like many other games.

When some unknown horrors appears, there is a third person shooting segment, but the narrator warns us that bullets are hard to come by.

Maybe we’re expecting too much, especially after CD Projekt Red did a similar stunt for Cybperunk 2077, but we’re not too impressed with The Sinking City yet.

Aside from being rough around the edges (which is expected from a game that is apparently still in aplha), the systems here just look a tad bland.

With the game set to launch on 21st March 2019, there’s still time for things to be improved and for systems to be fleshed out, and we’re holding thumbs because there’s always more room for games based on Lovecraft’s work.
