The Motorola P30 is an iPhone X-looking exclusive for China

Lenovo (which owns Motorola) is trying to crack the Chinese market, and is aiming to do so with the launch of new phones. Two of these have been released in some capacity in other parts of the world (the Moto Z3 and E5 Plus), but the company has a brand new offering in the form of the Motorola P30.

Initially spotted by PhoneArena, one can tell from the images that this device takes some clear design “inspiration” from the Apple iPhone X.

Particularly when it comes to the back cover and the shape of the dual lens camera.

Lenovo also took some cues from another smartphone maker with regard to the colour options for the Motorola P30, with the same sort of gradient colouring that the Twilight Huawei P20 Pro sports.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but we’re unsure how Apple and Huawei will feel about the Motorola P30.

The similarities end there though, as this device is not a high-powered flagship phone but rather placed within the premium mid-range segment.

It’s also a China-exclusive at this stage, going on sale on 15th September for 2 099 yuan (~$303) for the 64GB model.

So what does that buy you, besides a phone that looks a lot like the iPhone X?

It’s sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 6GB RAM and also comes in a 128GB onboard storage version. There’s a 6.2″ display (2 246 X 1 080 resolution) up front with an on-trend screen notch and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Other features include a 3 000mAh battery and rear fingerprint sensor, along with a 16MP plus 5MP lens taking care of the primary shooter.

With Lenovo’s mobile offerings not grabbing as many headlines locally, perhaps they should consider bringing the Motorola P30.
