A trio of iPhones expected at Apple’s 12th September event

With the dust settling in Berlin following a flurry of announcements at IFA 2018, the next big consumer tech event to concern ourselves with is Apple’s perennial September press conference, with this edition likely seeing the arrival of a trio of new iPhone smartphones.

Said event is scheduled for 12th September at 19:00 local time, with Apple announcing it with the message “Gather round”.

Read into that what you will, but the message is really only in reference to the new circular campus that Apple has recently finished building, which also plays host to the press conference.

As for the devices, three new iPhone models are expected, with a follow-up to the iPhone X, as well as an updated version of the regular iPhone 8 in the works. Their iPhone X successor is believed to be the iPhone XS, with Apple said to have a large and smaller version of the device.

While Apple has not confirmed the existence of the iPhone XS, 9to5Mac recently revealed exclusive rendered images of the device, along with some specifications.

To that end the XS will come in two sizes: 5.8″ and 6.5″ with an OLED display for each. It still remains to be seen what other significant changes, if any, Apple has in store for the smartphones.

Along with the new mobile hardware, Apple is also said to have some different colour options in the works for its iPhones, with orange and blue being touted. If true, it would be a nice change-up from the silver, rose gold and space grey that have dominated the lineup in past years.

In terms of other offerings a new smartwatch is in the offing, with 9to5Mac again obtaining exclusive images of a device called the Apple Watch Series 4.

With Apple losing ground to competitors like Huawei this year, much is expected from the Cupertino-based company’s new smartphones, especially if it does not want to be placed third in smartphone shipments for large parts of 2019 as well.
