Mercedes-Benz’s new all-electric EQC releasing in 2020

2018 is turning into the year of the all-electric car, with a number of manufacturers showcasing their latest efforts to dominate the burgeoning EV space. Leading the charge in that regard are the German carmakers, and one of the first vehicles to do so is the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

The car was shown off in Stockholm earlier today, with it set to go on sale Stateside in 2020. For now the EV is being used to generate even more buzz around the electric vehicle space, with Mercedes-Benz planning to preview the EQC in more corners of the globe by mid-2019.

Hopefully South Africa is in the carmaker’s plans, but considering the lack of infrastructure locally for hybrid and electric cars, we’ll be holding thumbs very tightly indeed.

With its local status still a mystery, we can still dive into the specifications of the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

The battery powering this SUV has a capacity of 80kWh, with it generating an output of 299kW in terms of power. It also gets off the mark quite quickly, doing 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds.

For some strange reason, however, the top speed has been limited to 180km/h, but we’re assuming that’s because Mercedes wants to ensure a specific driving range.

Speaking of which the estimated driving range is 449 kilometres from a fully charged battery.

It still remains to be seen how much the Mercedes-Benz EQC will cost, but given the prices of most of their SUVs, it won’t be cheap.

Now we have to wait and see how Audi’s e-tron SUV compares, with it scheduled to debut later this month.
