Google Chrome’s offline dinosaur game has a 10th birthday Easter egg

Google recently redesigned Chrome for its 10th anniversary, bringing with it a tonne of new features, but one of them isn’t available until you’re disconnected from the internet.

Chrome’s offline “dinosaur game” endless runner has been updated to include a surprise befitting of a birthday in the form of a cake that can be picked up near the start of the game.

This will put a jaunty little party hat onto the T-Rex which even has tassels moving in the wind when you’re running.

While it’s a bit difficult to see, balloons will also be drawn into the background where clouds would usually be.

This new feature works on both the desktop and mobile versions of Chrome, and you can see it running on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on this page.

If it doesn’t work you may need to update to the latest version of the browser, and remember to turn WiFi off or unplug the router.

This new content works with the other addition made to the game back in 2016. The day-night cycle is still present and, when it changes to night, the party hat will change colours from blue / purple / red / green. See it in the gif below.

Despite being a funny little inclusion that gives you something to do when the internet goes down, we’re glad to see the game get this little additions over the years, acting as an inspiration to even be turned into a physical machine.
