Why Samsung products are great for business mobility

Back when email was the best way to get a message to somebody and the whir of fax machines was a common noise in offices, the laptop was the king of business mobility.

Fast forward to 2018 and notebooks still play a prominent role but as business becomes more digital, the notebook is not always the best device.

The prevailing logic then is that tablets would be better suited. The IDC (Industrial Development Corporation) however says that tablet shipments in Q2 2018 fell 13.5 percent. The reason for this, is that consumers are opting for larger smartphones or a notebook.

The trouble is you can’t really use a smartphone for work. Can you?

In 2017 Samsung introduced DeX. The solution allows a user to connect a mouse, keyboard and monitor to their Samsung smartphone and get a superior desktop experience. One device, multiple applications.

Effortless Convenience with Samsung DeX

DeX gives users the freedom to take their device with them and continue working. In the logistics and retail sectors for instance an employee could move freely through a building taking stock and updating spreadsheets on their handset. That same handset can then be connected to a monitor, mouse and keyboard and used as a desktop.

This has the added benefit of lowering capital expenditure as well as operational expenditure, for those that lease equipment. This is because a business need only give employees a smartphone, monitor and mouse rather than a smartphone and a work PC/notebook.

Smart security with Knox

Aside from DeX, Samsung also provides firms with its Knox solution which makes management of devices easy.

Corporates have the ability, through the Knox Platform for Enterprise, to deploy an on-device container with advanced security and management features.

Unlike other container solutions, the keys for encrypting and decrypting the Knox Workspace container are derived in the mobile device’s chipset. Any apps, email or files stored in the Knox Workspace container are encrypted and can only be accessed when the user enters their PIN, password, pattern or through biometric authentication.

If the device is ever compromised, the Knox Warranty Bit will fuse, and the Knox Workspace container will permanently lock down to prevent data leakage. So even if the end user installed malicious applications onto their mobile device, these would not be able to penetrate the Knox Workspace.

To this end, Knox enabled devices come with pre-installed anti-malware detection powered through an Industry Leading Security partner.

What’s more, is that employers can setup Knox for an employee without having to take the phone out of the box.

“We give the customer the ability to tailor their out-of-box experience to their end users, therefore reducing the set-up and management cost of these devices for the corporate,” explains Samsung.

Some examples of Samsung solutions are:

  • Knox Configure
  • Knox Manage
  • Knox Mobile Enrollment

Business mobility is a must for most businesses, but care must be taken before diving into a mobility plan. First assess the job profiles of employees and determine whether a mobility solution is needed. Sales representatives for example would benefit from solutions such as DeX as they would be able to check customer information, without the need to lug around a heavy notebook.

With more and more corporates allowing their employees to work off-site, at times convenient to both parties, better mobility leads to maximum productivity for the business and the employee.
