3D Printed Terminator head is packed with futuristic features

Back in 2017 we featured a 3D printed bust of the Terminator T-800, but now we have something a bit more fleshed out.

Maker Noah Williamson has not only made a replica of the robot’s head, but he’s also packed it with moving parts and a hidden feature. The eyes glow red and can be moved around, the mouth opens and closes with an impressive piston system, and there’s a removable CPU chip accessed in a movie-appropriate fashion.

Williamson tells us that, using Blender, the modelling process only took around four days of on and off work to complete. This was sped up thanks to the fact that this is a remix of two previous models – a solid T-800 head and a CPU designed to be an SD card holder.

Each of the larger pieces here took around 16 hours to print with the total print time for the project coming it at 70 hours.

After a couple of coats of filler primer and some high grit sand paper, painting was done to make it as accurate as possible, going for a metallic silver on most of the print together with a flat white for the teeth.

Those looking to make their own can find the files available for free on Thingiverse, but should take head of a few warnings: the jaw mechanism is fragile, and you will need to bump the scaling up to 130% to make a prop this large.

The version you see on this page is around nine inches (~22.8 centimetres) tall.
