BlackBerry KEY2 now available through Vodacom

After announcing the BlackBerry KEY2 LE at IFA 2018, the local arm of TCL Communication (the company that manufactures BlackBerry smartphones) has announced the availability of the BlackBerry KEY2 in South Africa.

The KEY2 will be available in in the country from today through Vodacom on a Smart XS+ contract for R599 per month over 24 months.

The big feature of the KEY2, according to TCL, is the dual rear camera but we’re of the opinion that a physical keyboard is a feature worth pointing out in 2018.

The handset is rather middling with its Snapdragon 660 chipset though the CPU can reach clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz. That is paired with a sizeable 6GB of RAM so hopefully the phone can keep up with the demands of users.

The one thing we can seemingly count on is that the BlackBerry KEY2 is secure. “BlackBerry has been iterating and perfecting our approach to mobile security for decades, and we’re excited to have this new genuine, modern BlackBerry smartphone available for our fans around the world to enjoy,” said general mobility of Mobility Solutions at BlackBerry, Alex Thurber, in a statement.

There’s no word yet on a cash price for the KEY2 but we have contacted TCL Communication and when we get a response we’ll be sure to update this story.
