Tshimologong Precinct and IBM to partner on acceleration bootcamp

The Tshimologong Precinct and IBM South Africa are partnering on something that should be noteworthy for startups in the Gauteng area.

More specifically the pair have announced a new accelerator bootcamp set to take place from 8th October to 16th November in which enablement and development will serve as the primary focus.

The six-week long bootcamp, called The Startup Accelerator, will feature a series of short but intensive modules in which startups will be assisted in helping to address in skills shortages and fill any gaps in their burgeoning business.

“Growing technology startups has long been a focus of the Precinct and we are pleased to partner with IBM SA to further develop this vital segment of the market. This bootcamp is centred on investment, one of the critical elements of any growing business. We look forward to working with the teams to make a bottom-line investment in tomorrow’s future technology leaders,” says Shaun Randles, enterprise development manager for Tshimologong Precinct.

Along with the skills acquired via the bootcamp, at the end of the six weeks, there will be the opportunity to pitch for investment, with up to R500 000 in products and services available.

The startups will pitch their reasons why IBM should invest in the development of their business at an awards evening at Tshimologong Precinct taking place during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018 in mid-November.

In order to be considered during the application process, startups need to ensure that their business has a minimum of one-year trading as a CIPC registered business, are black South African owned and managed, have a turnover between R120k and R50 million per annum, and the owner must be actively involved in the business.

There’s a longer list of eligibility provisos which you can find here, with the closing date for applications being 5th October at 15:00 (local time).
