Build a futuristic construction machine out of LEGO, win a trip to Sweden

LEGO has recently opened up a contest for the community to create their own version of what construction machinery will look like in the future with some very impressive prizes on the line.

The grand prize winner, along with a tonne of LEGO and other merchandise, will be walking away with a trip to the Volvo Customer center in Sweden where they’ll be able to test-drive some real world machines.

Volvo has been a partner of LEGO for a few years now with the pair putting out a few sets. This contest, however, is inspired by one set in particular: 42081.

The Volvo Concept Wheel Loader ZEUX, as you may have guessed by the name, isn’t based on a production vehicle but rather a concept for what these pieces of equipment could look like in the future.

To enter the contest you need to take inspiration from the ZEUX and create your own concept in LEGO. These must be submitted by 18th October to be eligible.

The entries will be judged on four criteria: coolness / originality, inspired detailing, theme relevance, and the best use of LEGO pieces.

If this is in your wheelhouse make sure you check out the official contest page for all the fine print.

Just note that these kind of contests bring out the best builders in the community all vying for top spot. You’re going to have to great something truly great to even have a slim chance.

Despite the contest being shown off before it officially opened, at the time of writing there are no entries as of yet.

The judging phase will begin immediately after entries close and the winners will be announced on 21st November.

Two runner ups will also receive a bundle of sets and Volvo merchandise.

If you’d like to enter a contest where your entry could become its own set, well that’s going on right now too.
