Huawei has a long tradition of manufacturing great value for money mid-range smartphones, and the new Mate 20 Lite is the new addition to the lineup. This latest offering, however, ups things in almost every department to redefine what is meant by a premium mid-range phone.

Smart snapper
What makes the Mate 20 Lite such an enticing prospect is the array of high-quality specifications and components it touts, all of which is enhanced by the AI technology that Huawei has been developing over the past few years.
Starting things off is the 6.3″ FullView Display up front, which affords users an 81 percent screen-to-body ratio and crisp 2 340 X 1 080 resolution. It also features the on-trend screen notch at the top of the display that houses a dual camera setup with a 24MP and 2MP lens on offer.
The front-facing camera system is also a first of its kind with AI-enabled scene recognition. This allows the Mate 20 Lite to identify the environment in which it is taking a picture, and adjust the camera settings accordingly in order to capture the best possible image.

To match the AI capabilities of the four cameras onboard the Mate 20 Lite, Huawei has opted for the octa-core Kirin 710 chipset. It comprises of a pair of quad-core processors, which clock at speeds of 2.2GHz and 1.7GHz respectively.
Layered atop the Kirin 710 is an AI engine akin to the one Huawei features on the flagship P20 and P20 Pro smartphones, which means the Mate 20 Lite boasts some of the best machine learning technology that the Chinese company has mustered to date.
When you factor in that the Mate 20 Lite is also scheduled to receive Huawei’s GPU Turbo update, as have several other of their phones this year, this new smartphone will only get more powerful and efficient with time.
The GPU Turbo update has the added benefit of decreasing power consumption by up to 30 percent. This means the 3 750mAh battery housed inside the Mate 20 Lite, which is already pretty sizeable, will be able to go a full day and then some. South African consumers will not have to wait long to get their hands on the new Huawei Mate 20 Lite, as the device is set to be officially unveiled to South Africa next month on 5th October.
