There’s going to be a Nintendo Switch Fortnite bundle, for some reason

Joining the ever-growing list of Nintendo Switch variants and packages is the “Double Helix Bundle” which is focused on Fortnite.

Announced yesterday, the bundle comes with a Nintendo Switch sporting the blue and red Joy-Con combo, Fortnite pre-installed, 1 000 V-bucks and the titular Double Helix Set.

The set is made up of a unique character outfit, backpack (back bling), glider and a pickaxe.

In the US this bundle will be retailing for $300 (~R4 419), which is the recommended retail price for standard console over there.

Since Fortnite is a free game, the only extra value you’re getting here is the currency and the unique cosmetic items. This could be seen as close to worthless by some, but it is nice if you’re in the group of people who are looking for this specific colour variant of the Nintendo Switch, and you want to play Fortnite on this console.

That being said, 1 000 V-bucks sells in the in-game store for $10 (~R147), so you’re not getting too much here in the way of value.

To us it just seems like a marketing ploy to move more units because Fortnite is the big game right now. Slap it’s logo on just about anything and you should see sales, which is what we think Nintendo is doing here.

We’d be a little less cynical if the console was a bit different like the Pokémon Let’s Go variant, or the in-game items were based on Nintendo characters, but you’re getting nothing of the sort here.

The Double Helix Bundle is launching overseas on 5th October if you’re still interested in it.
