Legendary Pokémon and app integration in the new Let’s Go trailers

Yesterday we got not one, but two new trailers for Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!.

The first is in English and is the shorter of the two, but may be the more interesting here depending on how much you like Mew.

Yes this legendary Pokémon will be in the new games but is, unfortunately, locked for most players and can only be obtained with the Poké Ball Plus accessory.

Just a reminder that, unless you’re buying a bundle, the Poké Ball Plus costs $50 (~R727) overseas. Locally we can only see Raru with a listing for the controller which is priced at a hefty R1 099.

The rest of the trailer is focused on Go Parks where you can import Pokémon from the app, including Alolan Forms and catching the three legendary birds Atricuno, Moltres and Zapdos.

The Japanese trailer, despite being twice as long, covers much of the same ground with some extra information around those legendary bird fights.

In a big change to the games formula you can now completely drain these Pokémon’s HP away before trying to catch them. This is sure to make catching these desirable Pokémon much easier, but really betrays the difficulty of these stronger matchups from other games.

It’s just further proof to us that these two games are being made for newer fans and not the diehards like us.

Another point to note about these fights is the timer in the upper left corner. It looks as though you only have a limited window to complete the battle and make the catch. Hopefully that adds some of the complexity of the fight back into the mix.

On the positive side of things, we do get to see what riding a Dragonite looks like, which seems amazing. If nothing else the Let’s Go titles will finally grant the wishes of trainers the world over to prance around on whatever mount they like, as long as they’re part of gen one.
