New Samsung Galaxy A7 has trio of cameras and R8 499 price tag

Samsung has recently announced a new premium mid-range smartphone – the Galaxy A7.

Compared to previous A series models that the South Korean manufacturer has debuted, the new Samsung Galaxy A7 seems to tick all the usual boxes. What does distinguish it, however, is the trio of camera lenses on the rear.

Yes, now Samsung is getting into the three camera game, with the A7 the first to do it.

This latest addition fits in with Samsung Mobile head, DJ Koh’s, recent statements that the company would be focusing its efforts on the mid-range tier of devices in order to court more millennial customers.

As such, a triple camera setup would have been something that a Galaxy S flagship would have featured first, before filtering down to cheaper devices.

Shifting back to the Galaxy A7, the trio of lenses on offer are a 24MP primary camera, which is supported by a 8MP wide-angle and 5MP depth offerings.

The former two we’ve spotted on devices before, but the depth-specific lens will allow users to adjust the depth of field in camera mode to create that oh so coveted bokeh effect.

As for the rest of the Galaxy A7, a 6″ AMOLED display (2 220 X 1 080) is up front alongside a 24MP camera and a shift of the fingerprint sensor to the side of the phone.

Internally an undisclosed octa-core chipset is running things, with 4GB and 64GB onboard storage designated for the SA model.

More details should be forthcoming on 11th October, when Samsung plans to “reveal” the Galaxy A7 with a bit more pomp and circumstance.

We do already know, however, that the Galaxy A7 will launch in South Africa in November (no definitive date) with a recommended price tag of R8 499.

With Huawei also debuting the Mate 20 Lite next month, it should be interesting to see which device consumers gravitate towards.
