Huawei Mate 20 Lite launching in South Africa for R8 999

There’s a new Chinese smartphone landing early next month. No, not the flagship Huawei Mate 20, but rather the premium mid-range Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

The smartphone maker announced last week that the device would be arriving in South Africa on 5th October, but at the time no official pricing was available.

That changes today, however, as the Huawei Mate 20 Lite carries a recommended price tag of R8 999.

What does that buy you?

Well the Mate 20 Lite has a screen notch sporting 6.3″ FullView display, along with HD+ visuals. Running things is an octa-core Kirin 710 chipset, with a 3 750mAh battery promising all-day battery life.

The big talking point about the Mate 20 Lite though are the four cameras it features, all with Huawei’s AI-aided features for taking better pictures. The two on the back are a combination 20MP and 2MP lens, while the front-facing duo are 24MP and 2MP.

With Samsung also announcing their own new premium mid-range offering in the Galaxy A7 at R8 499 (RRP), it looks like there’ll be a couple of devices on the market next month for cost-savvy consumers.
