Xbox One is getting keyboard and mouse support

Controllers have their place in video games but when it comes to things like first person shooters there’s nothing that beats the fine-grained precision of a keyboard and mouse.

PC gamers know this all to well and soon Xbox One owners will be able to experience the joy of playing with those PC peripherals.

Microsoft has revealed that in the coming weeks, select Xbox Insiders will be able to start using a keyboard and mouse in games. There is however, a catch.

Support for the peripherals is at a developers discretion and is not enabled by default.

“Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games,” writes Microsoft in a blog. “Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.”

The first game to get support for keyboard and mouse will be Warframe.

The Redmond giant also revealed that it will be partnering with Razer “to bring you the best possible mouse and keyboard experience for this new functionality” though Microsoft says most wired and wireless USB keyboards and mouse peripherals will work with the Xbox One.

We’re quite excited to see this functionality coming to the Xbox One. Yes controllers work just fine for games but entering passwords into the console using a controller is a chore.

As for those saying that you can’t use a keyboard or mouse on the couch we present the Corsair Lapdog. Is it silly? Yes. Do we want one? Yes. Does this announcement from Microsoft finally give us a reason to buy one? Definitely.
