No jail time for Australian teen who hacked Apple

Remember that teenager in Melbourne, Australia that hacked Apple for two years without being noticed? His sentence has now been handed down.

The teen pleaded guilty to accessing Apple’s systems back in August and now the judge has decided his fate.

The teen will not face jail time and instead an eight month probation order will be put in place.

In a report by The Age in Australia the magistrate was quoted as saying, “Your offending is serious, sustained and sophisticated,” adding, “You knew what you were doing was wrong.”

The teen downloaded 90GB of secure files though Apple says that no customer information was compromised in the hack.

During his trial the court learned that the teen had been accepted into university to study criminology and cyber safety.

Perhaps he’ll learn not to store his hacking tools in a file labelled “hacky hack hack” in future.
