Doctor Who: Past, present and future on Showmax

Despite being a quintessentially British invention, Doctor Who is a franchise loved the world over, and the newest instalment, Season 11, comes to South Africa express from the UK, with new episodes every Monday, as of 8 October, only on Showmax.

Until then, Whovians can indulge in the other Doctor Who series on Showmax while the hours tick by: Seasons 9 and 10 are currently on the platform to keep fans going.

Your Doctors for these series are Matt Smith (The Crown, Terminator Genisys) and Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It, In the Loop) respectively. These lauded actors both bring their own spin to the franchise, with Smith being a particular favourite among hardcore Whovians. Each season contains 12 episodes of around 45 minutes each, ending with an hour-long finale.

Make sure you check out the regeneration scene in the Season 10 finale as the torch is passed down to Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch, Attack The Block), the new Doctor for Season 11. This extended scene is a touching send off and all works out to around 15 minutes of watch-time, which is perfect to blow through while Whovians take their lunch break.

If all of that has got you fired up to watch the new season of the show, and you’ve powered through Seasons 9 and 10 already, chin up: there’s a bevy of online trailers, teasers and special features to help you prepare for Season 11.

The first trailer is an introduction to the new companions who will be joining in on the adventure. Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole look to be the three important faces here, which you may have seen in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Burning Sands.

The most recent is the second full trailer, which gives us a look at how Whittaker is going to portray this important character.

The release date trailer also brings us a bit closer to these characters ahead of their debuts.

So if you want to watch it all before 8 October, you’ll have to start binge-watching now. And you can do this right now, for free, using a 14-day free trial on Showmax, or if you are a DStv Premium customer, simply add Showmax to your DStv bill and join the fun for no extra cost.
