The golden age of television doesn’t only apply to intense dramatic series like Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale and Westworld. It also means that there are a wealth of great comedies on offer as well, many of which can be found on the Showmax streaming platform.

LA to Vegas

This is the premise behind LA to Vegas, which is a new series available on Showmax that looks at all the bachelorette parties, boys’ weekends and tech conferences that happen in the entertainment capital of the world.
Serving as our ears and eyes on those flights is attendant Veronica “Ronnie” Messing, played by Kim Matula (Unreal, The Bold and the Beautiful). The other notable addition to the cast is moustachioed Dylan McDermott (Hostages, The Practice) as the charismatically reckless pilot for Jackpot Airlines.
Playing House
The first two seasons of Playing House take a hilarious look at friendship and parenting.
The friends in this case are Maggie and Emma, who end up living together to raise Maggie’s daughter Charlotte after she kicks her husband out. But in Season 2, Emma gets some interesting news that may affect their cosy dynamic.
Playing the leads are Lennon Parham and Jessica St Clair, with the pair partnering on other TV series in the past, which means their comedic chemistry is unrivalled.

Impastor
File this one under dark comedy.
Buddy is a stereotypical loser who is down and out following a serious gambling debt, but after a botched suicide attempt, he decides to play the hand fate has dealt him by impersonating a homosexual pastor.
What makes Impastor worth the watch is the less than pious life that Buddy, played by Michael Rosenbaum of Smallville fame, leads when he’s not in his robes and preaching to the congregation.
