Microsoft introduces new noise-cancelling Surface Headphones

Last night Microsoft held its Surface event for 2018, and when it comes to new devices it did not disappoint. We received updates for some of the Surface lineups notebooks and desktops, along with a brand new addition is the Surface Headphones.

These latest set of cans are noise-cancelling, and should pair nicely for users that enjoy having hardware that’s branded the same.

For now they only come in light grey, with Microsoft noting that will be available to purchase in the UK and US come the festive season.

Sadly it doesn’t look likely that South Africa will be getting these audio peripherals, as Surface hardware is still not officially available in the country. That probably will not change with this latest batch, but a man can dream.

As for the technical specifications of the Surface Headphones, they feature active noise-cancelling at up to 30 decibel and passive noise-cancelling at up to 40 decibel. Added to this is the ability to operate wirelessly for up to 18 hours according to Microsoft, with charging taking roughly two hours.

It can be corded as well, with a USB or standard 3.5 mm jack on offer.

Microsoft have also made the Surface Headphones compatible with Windows 10 (obviously), iOS, Android and macOS devices. Cortana is also available on the Surface Headphones, making them smart too, provided your paired to a device that sports the Microsoft digital assistant.

Currently up for pre-order Stateside, the Surface Headphones are listed at a pricey $349 (~R4 992).
