Microsoft updates notebook lineup with Surface Pro 6 & Surface Laptop 2

It’s always a little bittersweet to report on new Surface hardware from Microsoft, namely as the company never brings the devices into South Africa.

That could change someday, however, so let’s look at some of the new offerings that Microsoft unveiled at its 2018 Surface event yesterday.

On the notebooks front, the comapny served up two new devices with the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2.

Starting with the tablet convertible, the Surface Pro 6 it features a touch-enabled 12.3″ (2 736 X 1 824) PixelDense display.

To pair with that, Microsoft has not held back when it comes to specification. Namely potential customers will have the choice of 8th Gen Intel i6 or i7 processors, along with 1TB SSD options and a toss-up between 8GB or 16GB of RAM.

As such, if you opt for the top of the range specifications, the Surface Pro 6 will be a definite rival to some of the premium business notebooks out there.

Should you be more keen on a traditional looking notebook, the Surface Laptop 2 also saw the light of day yesterday.

In terms of specification it has a similar bunch of options to that of the Pro 6.

To that end 8th Gen Intel i5 and i7 processors are on offer, as well as 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and the choice of an Intel UHD 620 graphics card for the i5 model and UHD 650 GPU for the i7 version.

As for the display, a 13.5″ PixelDense screen is available, with a 2 256 X 1 504 resolution and touch-enabled interface.

Both the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 are available for pre-order now, and will ship in the States on 16th October. The Pro 6’s price starts at $899 (~R12 907) and Laptop 2 will begin at $999 (~R14 340).

As usual with Surface-branded hardware, we’ll have to wait and see if Microsoft will bring these new devices to South Africa.
